    VIII CLAPEM

    The main event of the LARC, CLAPEM (Congreso Latinoamericano de Probabilidad y Estadística Matemática) on its VIIIth edition, took place on 12-16 November 2001 in Havana, Cuba with 196 participants from 20 countries.

    Francisco Aranda Ordaz Award

    Francisco Aranda Ordaz Award honours the best Ph.D. thesis in Probability and Mathematical Statistics of a Latin American student between two editions of the CLAPEM. During the VIII CLAPEM (see above) and among a very significant number of high-quality theses, the jury, chaired by Prof. Guido del Pino, decided to award

    Gabriel Huerta (Mexico),
    Bayesian Analysis of Latent Structure in Time Series
    at Duke University (1998), advisor Mike West;
