* Ed Waymire is the new president and Wilfrid Kendall is the new president-elect of the Bernoulli Society. We all wish to congratulate them on their new appointments.

* New lecture series in honor of Oded Schramm.

A new lecture series is being initiated in collaboration with IMS to honor the memory of Oded Schramm. Details will appear in Bernoulli News.

* Wolfgang Doeblin prize 2012

    The Prize is to honour the scientific work of Wolfgang Doeblin. It will be awarded for outstanding work in the field of probability, to a single individual who is at the beginning of his or her mathematical career.

4- OBITUARIES

Paul Meier passed away on August 7,2011 in New York, NY, USA, age 87.  The statistician who promoted the use of randomized trials in medicine is best known for introducing, with Edward L. Kaplan, the Kaplan–Meier estimator, a tool for measuring how many patients survive a medical treatment. Read an obituary at The Lancet website doi:10.1016/S0140-6736(11)61438-4.
