Highlighted Events *** Bernoulli-IMS 10th World Congress in Probability and Statistics (BS-IMS-WC) July 19 - 23, 2021 Seoul, South Korea (Virtual) Due to the situation around the COVID-19, travel restrictions and the uncertainty of worldwide participation, the Organizing Committee has decided to convert the 10th World Congress in Probability and Statistics into a Virtual Congress based on Zoom format for the planned period, in consideration of our participants’ safety as well as their intellectual aspirations. Therefore, we would like to invite all our global members to participate in the Virtual. This quadrennial joint meeting is of steadily increasing importance to the scientific vitality of the fields of statistics and probability and their applications. This Congress will have 14 (plenary) named lectures, one public lecture, 40 invited sessions featuring 120 speakers, a number of Contributed talks, and Poster sessions. ***Bernoulli-IMS Young Researchers Pre-Meeting 2021 July 17 - 18, 2021 Seoul, Korea (Virtual) The Bernoulli Society and the IMS are co-sponsoring a two-day pre-meeting for young researchers right before the Bernoulli-IMS World Congress in Korea. The main objectives of the pre-meeting in 2021 are: (1) to stimulate interest of international young researchers in a rapidly emerging field; (2) to give support and perspective to young researchers with regard to mapping out their future career - especially for participants from developing countries; and (3) to allow young researchers with common research interests to network amongst their peer group. The two-day Young Researchers pre-meeting 2021 dedicates the first day to the academic theme of Data Science. The second day is dedicated to a series of presentations and group discussions that pertain to career development. This is complemented by several mini-talks, group discussion, and poster session by the young participants. ***63rd ISI World Statistics Congress 2021 (ISI-WSC) July 11 - 15, 2021 The Hague, Netherlands The scientific programme will introduce the latest developments in statistical research and practice through presentations, discussions and a series of short courses; the virtual exhibition will showcase the work and products of those who support our profession. ***Frontier Probability Days (FPD’20) May 16-18, 2021 Las Vegas, Nevada, USA http://lechen.faculty.unlv.edu/FPD20/ The Frontier Probability Days is a regional workshop, now postponed to 2021 at the University of Nevada. Its purpose is to bring together mathematicians, both regionally and globally, who have an interest in probability and its applications. FPD aims to complement other regional conferences in Probability that are held annually elsewhere in the United States. ***International Conference on Robust Statistics (ICORS) June 28 – July 2, 2021 Vienna, Austria http://cstat.tuwien.ac.at/filz/icors2020/ The conference has been an annual international conference since 2001. The aim of the conferences is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in robust statistics, data analysis and related areas. Participation is by invitation only. ***6th IMS Asia Pacific Rim Meeting January 2022 Melbourne, Australia The Institute of Mathematical Statistics APRM will provide an excellent forum for scientific communications and collaborations for the researchers in Asia and the Pacific Rim, and promote communications and collaborations between the researchers in this area and those from other parts of the world. The program covers a wide range of topics in statistics and probability, presenting recent developments and the state of the art in a variety of modern research topics and in applications Invited session proposals are now being considered. ***Rényi 100 Conference June 20 - 23, 2022 Budapest, Hungary Alfréd Rényi was born on the 20th of March 1921. To celebrate this occasion, the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences are organizing a high-profile conference, representing modern probability, graph theory and networks, information theory, dynamical systems, number theory and other fields in Rényi's spirit. That is: not respecting strictly the borders between these and possibly other areas of pure and applied mathematics. ***International Symposium on Nonparametric Statistics (ISNPS2022) June 20 – 24, 2022 Paphos, Cyprus http://cyprusconferences.org/isnps2022/ The conference has been postponed to 2022 and it will bring forth recent advances and trends in several areas of nonparametric statistics, in order to facilitate the exchange of research ideas, promote collaboration among researchers from all over the world, and contribute to the further development of the field. SPA Conferences are organized under patronage of the Bernoulli Society and can justifiably be regarded as the most important international scientific meeting on the theory and applications of stochastic processes. This iteration will be hosted by Wuhan University. ***33rd European Meeting of Statisticians (EMS 2022) July 18 - 22, 2022 Moscow, Russia The European Meeting of Statisticians (EMS), sponsored by the European Regional Committee of the Bernoulli Society, is the main statistics conference in Europe. Statisticians of all ages and from all regions will meet to exchange ideas and discuss the latest developments in the broad field of statistics and probability theory. General News ***Nominations open for the Willem van Zwet Medal The Bernoulli Society has launched the Willem van Zwet Medal, to be awarded for special service to the Bernoulli Society. For more information, visithttp://www.bernoulli-society.org/news/53-general/323-willem-van-zwet-medal. ***Bernoulli Society New Researcher Award 2022 The Bernoulli Society welcomes applications to the New Researcher Award 2022. Each awardee shall deliver a talk at a special invited session during the 42nd Conference on Stochastic Processes and their Applications in 2022, and will receive a funding up to 1000€ to offset travel and other expenses. Eligible candidates are active researchers in Probability Theory who obtained their PhD degree on or after March 1st, 2016, and who are regular members of the Bernoulli Society. For more information, visit http://www.bernoulli-society.org/news/37-general-announcement/324-bernoulli-society-new-researcher-award-2023. ***Nomination Committee on New President-Elect and Council Members The Nomination Committee, chaired by the President-Elect Adam Jakubowski, sent their report to the Scientific Secretary in September 2020 with the following list of candidates: - President-Elect: Victor Panaretos (EPFL, Switzerland), commencing in August 2023 in succession to the next President Adam Jakubowski. Six ordinary members of the Council for a four-year term from August 2021 to August 2025: - David Aldous (University of California, USA) - Susanne Ditlevsen (University of Copenhagen, Denmark) - Jean-Marie Dufour (McGill University, Canada) - Marie-Colette van Lieshout (University of Twente, Netherlands) - Rolando Rebolledo (Universidad de Valparaíso, Chile) - Aad van der Vaart (University of Leiden, Netherlands) The Scientific Secretary Song Xi Chen submitted the report of the Nomination Committee to the ordinary members of the Council for additional suggestions. No further nominations were made. The Executive Committee and the Council approved the above nominations in October 2020. According to Section 9 of the Statutes, these candidates are declared elected without vote, pending final approval at the next General Assembly in July 2021. ***Nominations for the LARC of the Bernoulli Society The current members of the Latin American Regional Committee (LARC) nominate the following candidates for the renewal of the committee: - Manuel Cabezas (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile) - Inés Armendáriz (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) - Stella Brassesco (Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, Venezuela) - Arno Siri-Jégousse (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México) As the number of candidates is equal to the number of vacant places, all candidates shall be considered elected. The new members’ term shall begin on April 1, 2021 for a period of four years. ***Conformation of C(PS)^2 Committee 2021-2022 The proposed new formation for the Committee on Probability and Statistics in the Physical Sciences is composed of 5 members who already served in the past term and 7 new members, plus the elected chairman (Marcos Valdebenito).

Foreword Dear Members of the Bernoulli Society,These are times of hardship and worry for all of us, and I hope that we will survive this without great damage. As more or less expected, we had to postpone our World Congress in Seoul this August, due to travel restrictions worldwide, but also out of responsibility for our speakers and participants, also for all local helpers. Our sympathy is with all of them, and in particular with the local organizing committee, led by Hee-Seok Oh, and all other colleagues who have worked so hard for many years for this important Congress to happen. The Bernoulli-IMS World Congress has been postponed to July 19-23, 2021. The Young Researcher Meeting will also be postponed and happen during July 17-18, 2021.

The Prize is awarded biannually to a single individual who is in the beginning of his or her mathematical career, for outstanding research in the field of probability theory. The committee was chaired by Zhen-Qing Chen and consisted of Vladimir Bogachev, Takashi Kumagai, Michel Ledoux, Fabio Martinelli, Lea Popovic, Laurent Saloff-Coste. Congratulations! A decision about it will be taken around mid of May. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.by October 30th. ________________________ General News ***Bernoull-IMS One World Symposium is a success The virtual one week symposium on Probability and Mathematical Statistics, was held from August 24 to 28, 2020 . There were 4 plenary speakers and 7 (young research awardees) early career speakers who gave live talks (two times each) to a worldwide audience. The main part of the program contained 23 live discussion sessions conducted over a 24 hour clock across various time-zones. These sessions featured a selection of 600 prerecorded research talks that were uploaded by researchers from across the world. Over 2500 participants registered worldwide, interacting outside of talk in zoom rooms via virtual coffee gardens and ice breaker sessions. Our many congratulations to Leif Doring (Chair) and the organizing committee for a successful hosting of a very innovative symposium. The recordings are still available for a short period athttps://www.worldsymposium2020.org/ ***ISI-WSC 2021 goes virtual and ISI-WSC 2023 in Ottawa The biennial World Statistics Congress 2021 scheduled to take place in July 2021 at The Hague will be held virtually. This is an opportunity to host a more inclusive conference than ever before. It will allow for the greatest ever participation, reaching out to a wide diversity of members who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend an international conference, at lower costs, and with a lower carbon footprint. The ISI also announced that the World Statistics Congress 2023 will be held in Ottawa, Canada during July 15-20, in the Shaw Centre, in the heart of the city. ***Call for nominations Newbold Prize 2021 The Bernoulli Society’s Newbold Prize Committee invites nominations for the fourth Ethel Newbold Prize. The prize for excellence in statistics is awarded every two years, next time in Spring 2021 and is generously supported by Wiley. Nominations are sought for the Presidents’ Award, the Distinguished Achievement Award and Lectureship, the F.N. David Award and Lectureship, and the George W. Snedecor Award, to be presented at the 2021 JSM in Seattle. He had served the Bernoulli Society in several eminent functions, most notably as member and chair of the European Regional Committee (1969–1980) that organizes the European Meetings of Statisticians, as BS President (1987–1989), and as Editor-in-Chief of Bernoulli (2000-2003). In the early 1970s Willem was among the founding fathers of the Bernoulli Society. The Bernoulli Society and the academic world of Stochastics mourn the loss of one of their most eminent members.
